Quick Photoshoot Tips

Taking the proper steps in preparing for your shoot is easy and beneficial for everyone involved, it makes the entire session easier and helps your photos look their best. I have compiled just a few quick tips to help guide you.

Three words, rest, Rest REST!  A good nights sleep can make a world of difference. Not only are there a number of health benefits to catching the right amount of z's, it really does help you to look your absolute best. If the shoot is for the children still at the napping age make sure to schedule the shoot at a time that fits their normal sleep schedule, or if possible make sure they get a nap before the shoot, well rested happy babies make for much better photos.

Relax, I know, I know, easier said than done. Being in front of the camera is intimidating and down right scary to some I've even seen highly charismatic and non shy people transform into stiff boards when the camera is pointed in their direction. I would be a total hypocrite if I didn't admit that I too, have a preference for not being in the view finder of a dslr BUT, I also understand its a requirement for me to be as comfortable as possible and not over think the process of being photographed. A good  photographer will do his or her best to help you relax, because we know all too well that if you are stiff and uncomfortable its going to come across in the final image and there is no filter or photshop tool that can remove awkward. If you get the chance, meet your photographer before hand so that you can learn a thing or two about each other trust me, it helps.

Speaking of photoshop, understand that even though photoshop is a very powerful tool, its duty is to enhance the image, not make it. When I started photography I had no idea I was going to end up being a barber/stylist, plastic surgeon, personal trainer, car detailer, etc... I've been asked to do everything  from change a shirt color, to 'enhance' bust size and honestly these sort of requests can be easily avoided. Wear colors and sizes that are flattering, make sure your clothes are clean and as wrinkle free as possible, try to avoid busy attire as it tends to be the first thing people notice in the picture instead of you, the main subject. Much of this will seem like a given but I mention it because its happened a number of times. Some clients also assume anything can be fixed in photoshop so they don't bring their "A" game. Photoshop has its limits, and so do some photographers, so to avoid a possible higher charge (remember time is money and intricate photoshopping requires a lot of time and skill) or a ruined photograph use this simple trick, plan your look and clothing as if there were no such thing as photoshop.
